tour, tour, i can't wait for the tour... one month and nine days until the canopy club. that place is so nasty.

I'm thinking about going to the Columbus, OH show. I'm way excited that Kate Voegele is getting this huge opportunity to do the first leg of the tour with Matt. That is awesome for her.

Finally had some time to absorb this one. Great album. Loving "Car Crash" and "Come on Get Higher." The whole thing is great.

yeah, he's been getting tons of amazing reviews... but then again, of course not everyone is pleased. you have your haters saying the album sounds cliche and unoriginal. that's fine, but they don't know of the nathanson culture.

oh snap! you will most certainly enjoy a full blown curse fest then

I'm with you on that one elise. It's so infectious! I can't stop listening to it.

it's all about falling apart for me... so different from anything i've ever heard him do. i LOVE the classical piano in the beginning, and the vocal layering thing is so badass.

yay matt
car crash is on the cd that comes in the september paste, so hopefully even more people will love matt after that. i did not really think that a four year album gap could ever seem so right but 'some mad hope' is more worth it than i ever could imagine. keep us posted on how the shows go. i don't get to see him until the end of october, (i am blowing off my job to drive to nashville and i'm glad to know i'm not the only one willing to do that for a great show
) but i'd love to know how other people's shows go.

Woo!!! The show last night in Columbia, MO was SO GOOD! You can definitely tell there's a new energy w/ the new drummer, I like it. It's so interesting to see him gradually go from Matt Fish to this rock band. There was this couple up by the stage who were unbeilevably into the show...moreso than anyone else. I mean like...fists of rock and headbanging....and a few makeout breaks. I've never seen anyone behave that way at a Nathanson show, it was funny. The crowd was obnoxious but my sis and I were sitting up in the balcony so we avoided most of that.
Setlist was good...a LOT from the new album. I'm kind of used to the Sixers playing their regulars and sometimes ignoring the new album so I wasn't prepared for that, but it's cool. I'm slightly obsessed with Come On Get Higher and he had a great intro to it...like starting it out with Barry White-ish talking to get you in the mood. Daddy with his pants off. My sister enjoyed it. I knew she wouldn't like his music a whole lot but she'd love his banter.
So yeah! Good stuff! Have fun @ the rest of his shows, peeps!

jen! how come you're not going to madison on thursday?

My initial goal at the end of last semester was to not go to any concerts this fall...I didn't get any financial aid for school, I don't have a job because of student teaching, and I need to realize I cannot live off a credit card. WELL, then Ryan Adams decided he was going to show up in the midwest, THEN the SK6ers and Ludo bring out a fall tour and my plan was shot to hell. However, something had to go, so Matt got the boot.
If it was on a weekend, I could probably trick myself into going (Oh! I'm just visiting my parents!) There are only so many Thursday night runs I can make before I realize that my teaching kind of suffers when I only get a few hours of sleep the night before. I had to reserve those nights for SK6ers and Ryan. I WILL see him next time...and I'm really bummed I'm not going to see him this time around. Long, lame excuse, I know. But that's what it is. You all better FILL ME IN on what I missed!!
~ JenPosted 4 years ago on October 3, 2007 LINK -
Don't feel bad, I think it's a pretty damn good excuse!

I'm in a similar situation,Jen...so you're not the only one that had to miss out on Matt Nathanson this fall! I have no money and had to sacrifice some concerting. If Matt was playing on a weekend, I'd probably go despite being broke, but since it's a Thursday it was one of the shows on my list that had to be cut! It's too hard to find people to go on a week night anyway, so instead of forcing someone to go with me to that show and have my wallet suffer, I decided to save my money for the shows on the weekend that friends who actually want to be at the show can be at! Thankfully, Sixer shows in this area ended up being on really good dates!
~Britt~Posted 4 years ago on October 4, 2007 LINK -
I feel ya. We'll suffer together.
~ JenPosted 4 years ago on October 4, 2007 LINK -
that's such a shame. nathanson is one of the five people i do suffer drawbacks for, no matter what...
-amandaPosted 4 years ago on October 4, 2007 LINK -
How were the shows???
~ JenPosted 4 years ago on October 8, 2007 LINK -
If I had a ride to the Rochester show, I'd be there. Unfortunately that's not the case!
But yeah, how did the shows go?- MaryPosted 4 years ago on October 8, 2007 LINK -
I'm going to see him next week in Charlottesville, VA...is anyone else going to that show? And I'll definitely fill you guys in when I get back
-EmilyPosted 4 years ago on October 8, 2007 LINK -
SO FUN!!!! The only bad part was I was supposed to pimp for the Sixers and there were no flyers waiting for me to do so. The new stuff sounds SO GOOD though.
