MALE SIXERS FANS

First off, I'd like to clarify that this topic is 100% curiosity and that nothing will change my love for the sixers' music

That being said, Is there any other straight men that like the sixers, or am I just a very sensitive, teddy bear type of guy? Also, is the sixers music geared to females more then men? I bring this up only because I saw that the guys will be opening for hanson and I know no straight guy would be caught dead at a Hanson show. Ive been to maybe 5 sixers' shows and most of the guys I do see there are with their lady friends.

I'd like to get everybody else's take on this

I remember SK making a joke about the lack of male fans at a show in DC one time...

But yea, I'm a SK6ERS fan, I'm a male, I'm straight, and I'm good with my manhood. I've always brought my girlfriend to all the shows though. She likes them too, but I actually started listening to them first and got her into to them. I wouldn't say that their music is necessarily geared towards women, but I can understand why the majority of the crowd is female, being that SK6ERS have a lot of love songs/songs about relationships. I do know though that I do not want to see Hanson. It's not that I wouldn't be caught dead at their show, I just really don't like their music that much, and would rather pay to see SK6ERS play a full set. So that's my take. Then again, maybe I'm just a sensitive type of guy too?

Although I am female, it was my husband who got me in to the band and he is just as big of a fan as I am. He is clearly straight and secure with his manhood. Is the music geared towards women? I think there is a balance. Sure- songs like "Diamond" and "Girlfriend as Pretty as You"- just two examples- are perhaps something that the girls would like more than the guys. My husband's favs are the more rockin' songs- like "Vegas", "Glassjaw Boxer" and "Cabin in the Woods". So, I think the guys know how to capture each audience. We do go to all the shows together, though. I think that is why you see so many couples- they are both fans. My husband has a guy friend- who is straight- and has tagged along with us to the shows. From a female perspective though, it doesn't hurt that SK is hot......

i'm obviously a girl, but i know several guys that like them also. they're all kind of music junkie type of guys. i'm not sure if that's what you'd consider sensitive or anything, but yeah.

I've been lurking around here for a while, but I figure this would be a good time to finally post something in order to support the heterosexual male fan club. I'm sure there are a bunch of us out there, but I think we can all see the appeal felt by the young ladies in the crowd.
I'm sure I'd be a big fan if I just heard of him randomly one day, but I went to high school with him, and my fiance went to college with Jessica, so we've been following him all along, even from his "concerts" at the Prep Keggers back in the day

hey guys be nice about Hanson.... I admit I really don't enjoy going to Hanson shows as much as Sk6ers shows simply because the crowds gets pushy and waiting around is a bitch but the music is really good I promise...give it a shot :)

As far as ON-topic goes my guy friends really like the new album. I'll try to get them to come to a couple of shows

I know no straight guy would be caught dead at a Hanson show.

With twenty-two Hanson shows behind me, I can assure you that guys indeed do enjoy Hanson without the help from their lady friends.

Well i would like to assure you that i am a guy. A straight guy. And yes i think the sixers are great. I can play a ton of their music and i definately agree with bimjelizle05 with saying i can relate to his music more than women can because after all...sk is a guy. I don't there is anything wrong with guys likeing his music at all. It takes alot to go up on stage and perform music that is so personal. They put on a great show which tops any band you see on MTV or hear on the radio. They work hard doing what they do an following a passion. They've got my support all the way.

in my experience, the ratio of balls to non-balls at any show increases fairly proportionally with the number of distortion pedals and amount of band hair.

i would say that the thread could very well end with what PJ said. in this day and age, any kind of open discussion of actual emotion initiated by a male either makes you 1) gay, 2) emo, or 3) both. real bad dudes are supposed to chug more protein when they feel the slightest twinge of insight. they don't watch anything with zach braff or adam brody, they don't drink espressos, and they sure as shit don't go to some weak ass acoustic show. for real, brah.

and musically speaking, hanson is really good. their following is just so huge and dedicated that unless you get to the venue the night before the show, you're not going to get anywhere near the stage. i've never seen the floor of any place shake near as much as when i saw them at HOB in chicago a few years ago when pat mcgee band (how i found the sixers) opened for them.

Here is the way my Sixer obsession works with my husband--He listens to a lot of their music when he's driving or flying around for work, he enjoys downloading the newest additions on archive, he's always up for making a trip to wherever to see a show, and when people ask him about a new band recommendation, he'll totally recommend them; however, when it comes time to actually go to a show with me, he'll play his trump card of, "Doesn't Emily want to go?" Emily being my typical concert entourage.

Andy's thoughts on going to show are something like this--It'll be cramped and he'll feel like he's constantly blocking someone's view if he's in the front with me or he'll feel weird being not as enthused as most of the crowd (not that he isn't enjoying himself, but you won't catch him mouthing the words to 4th of July) or, more relevant to the subject, that he'll be the only guy there. There's also the possibility that he'll be out of town and couldn't go if he wanted to.

That isn't to say that he doesn't go to their shows or enjoy them. Andy was with me at a concert when we "discovered" the band, and in 2006 we flew to Providence and then we drove to CT for the preview tour (he really enjoyed the two acoustic shows). This year, we went to the Park West show and he sat through the VIP set (admittedly he felt a little awkward, but really enjoyed it and had a good conversation with SK about marriage and traveling as much as they both do) and then the show.

So all of this can be summed up by stating that I think it just depends on the guy and what their personality is and whether they generally enjoy concerts.

Drew is absolutly right...im strait as can be, and I get my balls busted all the time for the "soft college rock" (as my cousin calls it) that i listen too. I have no shame in being a sensitive guy. I know I'm straight and thats that. The music, movies, tv shows, or alcohol beverages someone likes doesnt change that.

Any attractive group of males will quickly form a female following.
In my opinion, a sign of talent is a male following. I've only been to one sixers concert, but there was a lot of guys there (unaccompanied by females too!).

Very true, learntoswerve. I think the proportion of girls to guys at shows isn't THAT far off, at least at the shows I have gone to. I can't get my finacee to go to a show with me (just not his thing), but a lot of the shows I attend I am either with a.) one or both of my 2 closest, straight, guy friends b.) my brother or c.) Laura. So besides choice C, I usually attend the shows with guys. Honestly, I don't really ever think about the gender thing, but that is probably because I am in the majority. Anyone there, no matter the sex, I know is there for great music....so I just don't end up thinking about the anatomy. I know there are very nice guy fans on here - so none of you are alone!

This being said, it does freak me out (I know I've said this many times before) that they are touring with hanson. This will, most likely, throw this ratio completely off if the crazy ass Hanson fans (present company excluded) pick up on this band and dig their nails in. Which I can't imagine them not, since we're talking about SK6ers here. Hanson is a great band, and I think they will have a blast touring together....I just really really really dislike Hanson fans (again, present company excluded).

no offense to the straight male fans, but i'm pretty sure the guy who always obnoxiously yells Diamond is straight. & not an emo, sensitive type. haha ;-)

There was a very obnoxious group of males at the Iowa show on Saturday...and I'm pretty sure they were female-free.

If you are thinking of who I thought was obnoxious, I thought it was the guys to the left of the stage who were the only ones to find alcohol in charlie's non-alcoholic pub. I thought that they were going to scream the typical diamond at first..but then they said the other go-to obnoxious yell, of telling the goose to dance. They told Kit to do the worm, and even after explaining about the ACL, they still shouted something about the worm and having multiple ACL injuries, which caused a puzzled look by Stephen (it was obvious anatomy wasn't their major). What made me angry was that they caused the change of the closer, and Stephen had Kit sit and play the keyboard instead, for what I am guessing was a change to the original closer. It still was Milwaukee, which is always nice to hear.

For the record, to comment on this thread, I actually turned my wife to the music. She usually goes to all of the shows with me. For this last show, my wife got sick and couldn't go. I ended up taking my two brothers, and they had a blast. They were hooked, so I bought them cd's and shirts, and I know they will be attending future shows with my wife and I.

Also, Marissa, If I remember correctly of who you guys are, I think the reason your husband was awkward at the VIP show was that you guys were basically in front of everybody for the thing, basically bumping into the guys as they played. I would have felt awkward as well.

ok, so i know i am commenting kind of late on this topic but, yes, they guys that came to the Iowa show were straight and obviously very annoying. I had the pleasure of standing right next to the guy who yelled all the time so I tried to make it clear that I did not know him. Also, me and my friend have met some nice guys at SK6er concerts... the men are definitely out there

one of my best friends is a straight, single guy and he loves all the same music that i do. he's a joy to go to shows with because he "gets it" and has a true love for not just certain music, but the concept of what it means to be a music junkie in general.
