Mike - have you ever tried the music editing program Goldwave? It has a lot of options to play around with the volume of a full track or of different parts of it.. as well as a lot of other cool stuff
I know you can download a full trial version somewhere... it's good for like 500 commands or something & then you have to register it. It's a pretty good program though, & for me has totally been worth the registration - I use it for almost all live music I get off archives or anywhere else.

i was wondering how your live recordings sounded so good in the car on the way to CT! mine are so quiet! hmm...I might try downloading that!

The recordings ARE quiet in the car... that's the main reason I want to normalize it somehow. I'll definitely try out the Goldwave. Thanks for the suggestion.
I'll try getting the second show up tomorrow. Its a little different mix... for the first show, I just put the mics on the table I was at... it was front and center so there's a little stereo effect. I had one mic pointed towards the stage to pick up the drums and any amps on the stage, then the other was at the left speaker for the whole band mix. I haven't listened to it with headphones on, but hopefully you'll be able to tell.
I recorded the second show from the back of the room so it should have a little different sound. Let me know what you think when I get the second show up.

hahaha it's truly an awesome program. Glad I could be of assistance all around =) Especially addressing your car-ride concerns, Catherine!
