I don't know about resident genius, but I do know how absolutely ridiculous working for the state government can be, let alone the feds...Even if you don't use them as a reference, do talk up your experience there, like saying "Oh, working for the government, you have to be really detail-oriented, so I blah, blah, blah." When I was interviewing for the next bad job that I would take, I just told them that the governor was urging the Fair Director to reorganize the staff and that I wanted to be proactive rather than wait and see what the bureaucratic commission would decide.
