a friend forwarded this to me, and i thought it'd be cool to start a discussion on this topic.

what did you think of it? would you consider yourself a "casual" fan or "super" fan? how does this make you think of the sixers or any other artist differently?

haha totes forgot to answer favorite venue.

i've never seen the sixers there (even though i know they played there... with needtobreathe nonetheless...), but i saw hanson at the great american music hall in san francisco and it was AMAZING and tiny and intimate and pretty.

also, there's a theater in my hometown (the broadway theater) that i also really love. it's seated but pretty small, but it's like old movie theater seating and it's just so awesome. not a bad seat in the whole house and i think if the Sixers ever did a headline show here (doubtful)...they should play there.

Name: Malary

Location: Saskatoon, SK, Canada (yes, that would be Kyle Riabko's hometown.)

What I do with myself: I'm a graphic designer w/ a bachelors degree in communication design. I work full time in Communications at the University of Saskatchewan and then on the side (mostly just for fun and for myself/unpaid these days) I do some other things...like make SK6ERS tour books and rock boat books and fun things. you can see my stuff at http://malary-cloke.com ... nothin' like a little self promotion.

First Sixers Experience: I went to Wisconsin in April 2008 to see Hanson one weekend (three shows)...and the Sixers were opening. I knew who they were beforehand and had a few albums and was pretty stoked to FINALLY see them and all, but seeing them live just opened up a whole new can of worms and I began to love them even more.....

Other Bands: A few of my other favorites are Needtobreathe, Hanson, Green River Ordinance, Matt Hires, Matt Wertz, Aslyn, Alternate Routes, Will Hoge, Josh Ritter... and i'm probably forgetting someone. it happens.

Interests: music, graphic design, art, traveling, photography, yoga, biking,

Fav. Sixers Song Live: Days, Milwaukee, Summer (especially acoustic/unplugged/Sixertown set! mmmmmm) ...realistically i dont think there's one song i DON'T like though. haha.

How Many Friends You Have Converted: I don't know who's kept up and who hasn't really but I've shared the music with lots of friends and they all had positive things to say!

Farthest You've Traveled for the Sixers: by car- 11 hours for one show (never doing that again, but it was quite worth it). by plane- i guess florida/miami/tampa for the rock boat... but that wasn't specifically for the sixers, but a whole combination of awesomeness.

Favorite Venue?:

Who Would I Like to See the Sixers Tour With?: Needtobreathe (again). I didn't see that tour (I wasn't a big NTB fan like i am now at the time) and they're both my favorite bands and it would be so god damn amazing. if i was a fan at that point i probably would have made a show happen.

What song of the Sixers has the most special/sentimental meaning to you and why? anthem of our discovery because it was the first song i ever heard back in 2005 or 2006 or something when i randomly listened to it on myspace once and LOVED it. between then and 2007 (glassjaw boxer release) i've always had Sixers in the back of my mind as a band I knew I liked but never really knew... and then i saw them in 2008 and they became one of my favorites instantly. <3

and i'm not adding a question because there's too many already and i'm super lazy/tired right now from work.

Name: Stephen

Location: Des Moines-ish, IA

What I do with myself: I work for a local government doing economic development. I am a thesis away from a Master's Degree and I should probably get on that...

First Sixers Experience: In fall of 2003 I was a college student who tagged along with some others to Cedar Falls to visit some of their friends. One of them was going to a concert and I went with because I liked music. I don't remember the place but the Sk6ers were playing and the rest is history!

Other Bands: Wow, my style has changed a lot in 8 years. I used to love pop-punk like NFG, Good Charlotte (!), etc. and then I got into screamo and played in a band that went on tour with the Used. After graduation I toned down a bit and got into more acoustic folk and now, believe it or not, listen to contemporary Christian music.

Interests: Music, investing, softball, being at the cabin.

Fav. Sixers Song Live: Live - Days because it's the longest!

How Many Friends You Have Converted: Hmm... I don't do the conversion, it just happens naturally...

Farthest You've Traveled: For the Sixers? We were thinking about going to the field day 2011 but I couldn't get enough vacation time off of work. We saw them when we were in Phoenix but we were there visiting a friend, but I'll count it!

Favorite Venue?: M-Shop Ames Iowa

Who Would I Like to See the Sixers Tour With?: Wow. Barenaked Ladies or Counting Crows. Maybe Josh Wilson.

What song of the Sixers has the most special/sentimental meaning to you and why? Anthem because it's the first song I heard. It was a really neat acoustic version (out of several acoustic versions!). Also, Such a Way. It was "this close" to being our wedding song if we could have changed 4 words.

Location: Chicago, IL

What I do with myself: i'm a college junior and i teach dance classes to kids and soon to be dance fitness instructor(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IJDU74oktM) <---click on that link, you'll get a kick out of it - I PROMISE! and i work at VS Pink.

First Sixers Experience: in April of 08 i was randomly visiting a friend at DePauw University in Greencastle, IN and we were hanging out around campus and it started raining. we sought shelter in the gymnasium only to walk into a SK6ERS show and no joke, there were probably only 3 other people there. so we felt bad for them a stuck around for the show. little did i know, i would basically fall in love with their music and have been a huge fan ever since.

Other Bands: i'm all over the board. Tom Petty, Taylor Swift, Ben Folds, Sara Bareilles, Nickel Creek just to name a few...

Interests: music and concerts, dance, road trips, watching Man vs. Food

Fav. Sixers Song Live: Milwaukee, Father's Day, Satisfied Man, 4th of July...

How Many Friends You Have Converted: my mom, my cousin, and my brother. so 3?

Farthest You've Traveled: For the Sixers? i made the hike from the chi to NYC for the 1000th show with my cousin and brother. best decision of my entire life.

Favorite Venue?: Park West in Chicago was my favorite so far.

Who Would I Like to See the Sixers Tour With?: shoot. um? taylor swift? i have no clue...

What song of the Sixers has the most special/sentimental meaning to you and why? probably Father's Day. my favorite lyrics are "you are more than just a product of your history" just really applies to my life and nearly makes me cry anytime i hear it.

First Sixers Experience: August 2007, opening for O.A.R. I went from dreading seeing this band to having SK's handwriting tattooed on me. Funny how things happen.

Other Bands: The Avett Brothers, The Alternate Routes, Mumford & Sons, Carbon Leaf, Ryan Adams...

Interests: Music, travel, NYC, Christmas...

Fav. Sixers Song Live: "Big Easy" (I prefer it live), "In Front of the World," "Cradle of Family," "Blue Jean..."

How Many Friends You Have Converted: At least 5.

Farthest You've Traveled: Well, hm. Philly or NYC. Both the same amount of time from my house.

Favorite Venue?: Bowery Ballroom.

Who Would I Like to See the Sixers Tour With?: Ummm. The Avett Brothers because they're my second favorite band to see live.

What song of the Sixers has the most special/sentimental meaning to you and why? "In Front of the World." I can't really put into words what this song has done for me. It's the song I have a tattoo. When I first listened to this song, it brought me to tears and it does to this day. It has a special place in my heart.

Name: Nick Krob

Location: Iowa City, IA

What I do with myself: Attend college in the terrible city of Cedar Falls majoring in Sociology, Philosophy, and Criminology. I am currently a junior.

First Sixers Experience: Back in high school, my 'music' friend (the only one with good tastes) gave me a copy of the self-titled album and said I would love it. He was obsessed and tried converting me. I tried 4 different times. The album started with Flower in the Rain, and I couldn't get past it. It was wayyyy too country for me (ironic since I now love the song). Needless to say, I forgot about them.

Then in my first month of college, I was miserable. I looked at the local music venue to see if there were any good shows coming up (aside from the same 3 local bands) and I saw one was Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers (it was their 5 year tour I believe). I thought, what the hell. I ordered Glassjaw Boxer 2 minutes later, bought tickets and went to see him, not expecting anything. I grew to love Glassjaw Boxer before the show, and had one of the best nights of my life. And to think, my apathy almost led me to skip the show to go buy food instead. I had never seen a better show in my life. Since that day, the SK6ERS have been my favorite band. And the self-titled album is one of the best I've ever heard (only beaten by Glassjaw Boxer).

Other Bands: The Hold Steady, Death Cab for Cutie, The Damnwells, Steel Train, Foxy Shazam, Guided by Voices, The Ataris, Blue October, Soletta, Jarrod Gorbel, John Frusciante, The Rocket Summer, The Swellers...the list goes on and on.

Interests: Music. Traveling. Writing. Art (mostly photography). Civil Rights. My Girlfriend.

Fav. Sixers Song Live: Have only seen it once...but YOU WIN!!!! I only saw it because my girlfriend bribed him with cookies pre-show. Other than that, See Yourself (not a fan on the record; love it live!), 4th of July, In Front of the World, See You Later, See you Soon, and MILWAUKEE! I haven't gotten to see many of my favorites so many...

How Many Friends You Have Converted: Haha does my mom count? Honestly, 2. My girlfriend and my mom. My friends don't know music at all.

Farthest You've Traveled: For the Sixers?...unfortunately circumstances have only allowed me to drive to a show 2 hours away. For a concert? 6 hours one way, 6 hours back on a school night! I made it to class the next day. Overall? I spent 6 months in England and a month and a half in Italy.

Favorite Venue?: Overall, probably the Blue Note in Columbia, MO or the Majestic in Madison, WI. Everywhere I've seen SK6ERS at have been crummy.

Who Would I Like to See the Sixers Tour With?: Himself. Twice as much Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers. Other than that? With the Damnwells or with Death Cab for Cutie would be pretty cool and possible. Maybe Wilco?

Sorry for writing so much...I tend to do that. And for my question,

What song of the Sixers has the most special/sentimental meaning to you and why?

I was just going to pop in and be like Woah Brittany and Sarah - the place you worked wouldn't allow you to go to concerts?! That is one of the worst things I've ever heard.
But then I thought, I should probably just join in. Mainly because I looked up my first SK6ERs concert, and it's almost been 5 years TO THE DAY!

What I do with myself: photograph the Sixers, and occasionally other bands, and worn down old buildings and small town America...and write travelogues.

First Sixers Experience: First show was them opening for Marc Broussard on 11/4/05. I had listened to them before but only a few months before...around July/August 05.

Other Bands: Ray Lamontagne, John Mayer, Josh Ritter, Jonny Lang, Jason Mraz, Marc Broussard, Better than Ezra, Serena Ryder, Amos Lee, Daniel Merriweather

Interests: The open road, music, photography, historical preservation, Americana

Fav Sixer song live: Milwaukee

How many friends have you converted into Sixers fans (brought to a concert, etc): about 6 or 7 maybe more that I don't know of

Farthest you've traveled? For SK6ERS or all together? I went on a road trip to Colorado a few months ago. For the Sixers it would have to be to New York with them on the 1,000th show tour.

Schuba's is def one of my favorite places, so many great Sixers memories there. Lincoln Hall was nice though.

When I was living in Pheonix, I saw them play twice at Cave Creek Coffee House, about 30 minutes outside Phoenix. The stage was in this dirt-packed back yard with a web of white lights strewn above, and a fire pit in the middle...it was magical. I'd fly out to Phoenix if they ever played there again.

What I do with myself: I'm a nanny to 3 awesome little kids!

First Sixers Experience: At Schubas in Chicago back in 2006. I went to see Tyler Hilton and stayed for the Sixers. I haven't seen Tyler Hilton since then but have seen the Sixers close to 30 times now!

Other Bands: Matt Nathanson, Will Hoge, Michael Tolcher, GRO, Graham Colton, etc

Interests: Music, travel, photography. Also, add me to the list of bad reality tv addicts!

How many friends have you converted into Sixers fans (brought to a concert, etc): I'd say that I've converted 2 into hard core Sixers fans and another 5 or 6 that enjoy them and would go to a concert with me if I asked.

Farthest you've traveled? Does The Rock Boat count? Sk6ers are what got me on board in the first place! If that doesn't count, then probably the NYE show at the Jammin' Java a couple years ago.

Favorite venue? I really liked the setup at Lincoln Hall in Chicago and will always have a soft spot for Schubas since that was my first show!

What I do with myself: Grad student, getting my masters in elementary education

First Sixers Experience: Opening for Dada in Chicago on 3.19.04. An east coast friend had turned me on to SK and I had no idea who Dada was but who cares. Thankfully they played a (free) full set at a coffee shop two days later so that was my first full show, and it was INCREDIBLE. Wee!

Other Bands: Ben Folds, Ryan Adams, Matt Nathanson, Tristan Prettyman, Queen, The Weepies, Nickel Creek, David Bowie, Counting Crows...and Boots's most recent pre-show mix has got me waaay into Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros so I'm going up to Chicago to see them on December 4th and I'm totally pumped.

Interests: tunes! plus reading, baking/cooking vegan food, eating the vegan food, seeing the world, and learning new things

Fav Sixer song live: hmmm that's tough. maybe Pedal Steel.

How many friends have you converted into Sixers fans (brought to a concert, etc): Oy...a LOT. At least 30. I wouldn't call all of them hardcore fans but I bring them and they enjoy it! I have managed to convert 2 or 3 into hardcore, although I think the Sixers did more work than I did there.

(Sisters don't let sisters listen to Nickelback). We drove to Bloomington, IL in April 2008 and saw them for the first time live.
What I do with myself: i work at tim hortons, but am currently trying to get a better job!

First Sixers Experience: in bloomington, il, in 2008. i had liked them for a while, but i worked at a strict christian college. eventually, we decided we needed to see them live, and we took sdonovan's sister to her 1st concert ever to get her over her love for nickelback kinda sucks it was during the hanson tour, but that was the date & location that worked.

Other Bands: Alternate Routes, Will Hoge, Andrew Ripp, Needtobreathe, Matt Hires, Sam Thacker, GRO, Pat McGee, and tons more that i'm too tired to remember off the top of my head

Interests: concerts (duh ), hanging out with friends, reading, shopping, drinking coffee zaps up a large part of my day...

Fav Song to Hear Live: Pedal Steel, Hearts in Pain, Bus Song (ok, it's a trevor jackson song, but whatever ), Anthem, Do, Dying Wish of a Teenager, Father's Day, Born in the Spring... I like mostly the darker songs - hearing them live just makes the emotion so much more raw & palpable.

So with the recent Sixertown thread and over the course of the year, I realized that I do not know many of the hardcore Sixer fans. After my personal observation of awkward fan interactions during Sixertown acoustic sets, I thought it might time for Sixers fans to become reacquainted with each other. Let's (re)introduce ourselves!

Start with name, location, and what you do with yourself. When did you see your first Sixers show? What are a few other musicians/bands you listen to? What are some of your other interests? Feel free to share as little or as much as you want.

Ok, adding this to keep it spicy. After you've (re)introduced yourself, add a new question for the next person to answer.
